The Solution
Bright kid Foundation has a specialised Infrastructure Development Team (IDT) that installs all the Early Childhood Development Centre infrastructure including safe and sanitary ablution units for both children and adults. Some preschools in informal settlements have access to waterborne sewage. In these cases, the IDT installs flushing toilets and connects them to the sewage lines. Other preschools, mainly in rural areas, have no access to waterborne sewage. In these cases, the IDT installs world class certified waterless ablution units made by Amalooloo. These do not have septic tanks, and require little or no maintenance. They have cisterns that are manually filled with water each morning for hand washing and are hygienic and odour free. Each unit weighs 1000kgs and they are solidly built. (For a detailed description on how the waterless system works, see the attached Amalooloo diagram). There are major challenges in delivering these ablution units, to widely dispersed sites, and installing them properly. The IDT has overcome these challenges. The IDT has specialised equipment to deliver and install these units, including specially adapted trucks, mechanical diggers, compressors and jackhammers.

Bright Kid Foundation also installs a disabled adapted ablution unit in every preschool
